Thank you for your interest in our program!
Our travel flag program runs on a calendar year, where we only have one tryout annually, usually in the month of January, prior to the start of the new season. We have a total of 12 teams for the 2024 season, including nine boys teams (ages 6U-14U) and three girls teams (ages 9U, 11U & 13U). We practice and train starting in early February and participate in tournaments from March to August, along the East Coast. Practice & training usually takes place 2-3 times per week at various locations throughout St. Mary’s County. Our athletes also participate in bi-weekly speed & agility training, which we also offer to the general public (non-Focus athletes) throughout the year. Focus quarterbacks have the opportunity to participate in quarterbacks specific training sessions as well.
Typically, there is one tournament a month (sometimes two). We travel to various states to compete, including but not limited to: Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Jersey, Delaware, Ohio, and Florida. We then take a break for tackle football season during the fall months and if our teams qualify for the World Championships, practices will begin again around Thanksgiving for the World Championships in January (in Florida). For the 2023 season, we had a total of 8 out of our 9 teams qualify for this prestigious event.
We understand the commitment financially to participate in a travel sports program. Please keep in mind that there is a yearly registration fee (per athlete), uniform costs, optional gear items available for purchase as well as expenses endured while traveling (hotels, transportation, gas, etc.). Both needs-based and leadership scholarships are available for all age groups. Payment plans are also available as needed as well as a 10% off pay in full discount! Focus fees are only discussed at the time of tryouts.
We encourage our athletes to play multiple sports! If your athlete participates in more than one sport, we simply ask for communication with your coaches. If the athlete has a Focus tournament that particular week, we expect the athlete to be in attendance at practice. If they have a big event coming up for another sport they play (a tournament, competition, etc.) there is flexibility with Focus practices, as long there is open communication! Participating in multiple sports can improve particular physical skills, create mental toughness and create an overall well-rounded student athlete.
One thing that sets our organization apart from other travel teams is that we live by the motto, #morethanfootball. We have four large seasonal community service outreaches that we do every year that our student-athletes participate in. We also provide mentoring and keep a ratio of peer mentors on each of our teams.
Come be a part of the movement! Stay Focused. Be Elite.
